Quality of Life: The Story Behind Seraphim - The Art Of Living

The newest arrival to the neighbourhood, Seraphim at Kloosterstraat 33, is once again a boutique brimming with unique trinkets, antiques, and handcrafted treasures. With her characteristic Philippine warmth, Joan Jahn enthusiastically welcomes every visitor, speaking with boundless passion about her shop.

“I completely understand why my son Paul fell in love with Antwerp, and I am so glad he passed that love on to me,” says Joan.

In 2021, she moved to Antwerp and, together with her son Paul and his partner Jonas, opened the restaurant Pelgrimhuis in Pelgrimstraat.

“I have always wanted to make a difference. There was always that calling to serve and a passion to strive for a better quality of life. In turbulent times, it becomes even more vital to enhance your way of living, and I want to help people do just that. You can truly care for people through both natural products and wholesome food.”

Quality of Life

Seraphim is the name of the highest order of angels—the celestial beings closest to God, overflowing with divine light and passion. That is precisely why Joan chose to name her collection after them.

She personally handpicks every item, seeking out pieces made by artisans who honour traditional craftsmanship, pass down heritage skills, and share a profound reverence for nature.

“This shop is also built on friendship,” Joan smiles, “because everything here has been crafted by friends from all around the world.”
